Meet Dr. Martha Ann Keels
Dr. Keels is from
Morganton, North Carolina. She graduated from Duke University with a B.A.
in Chemistry. After graduating from the University of North Carolina of
Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, she continued on to completed three years
of specialty training in pediatric dentistry at UNC. During her residency,
Dr. Keels received the Dentist-Scientist Award from the NIH which allowed
her to complete a PhD in epidemiology – with a
focus on the etiology of craniofacial birth defects.
Dr. Keels remains affiliated with UNC as an Adjunct Associate Professor
in Pediatric Dentistry. She is also an assistant clinical professor in
the Department of Pediatrics and Surgery at Duke University Medical Center.
She maintains her board certification in pediatric dentistry. She is also
a fellow in the American College of Dentists and the International College
of Dentists. Dr. Keels also lectures nationally to pediatricians and dentists
on pediatric dental topics.
She is a member and past president of the North Carolina Academy of Pediatric
Dentistry. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Southeastern
Society of Pediatric Dentistry. She serves on the Council of Clinical Affairs
for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and served on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Pediatric Dentistry. She is currently on
the Executive Council of the Pediatric Dental Section of the American Academy
of Pediatrics.
Dr. Keels resides in Chapel Hill and in her free time enjoys being with
her family. Her husband, Dr. Dennis Clements is a pediatrician at Duke.
When they aren’t busy with patients, they enjoy yard work, golfing,
biking or jogging around Duke Forest.
Meet Dr. Cynthia Neal
Dr. Neal is from Abingdon,
Virginia. She graduated with honors with a B.A. in Biology and Spanish
from Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, GA. She received her dental degree
from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She then completed
an advanced training program in Hospital Dentistry at the University of
Alabama at Birmingham where she was awarded “Resident
of the Year”. Dr. Neal received her advanced training in Pediatric
Dentistry at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC.
Between her advanced training programs, she worked at Wake County Human
Services providing dental care for children. Her proficiency in the Spanish
language enabled her to educate families regarding oral health and provide
compassionate dental care to many Spanish speaking patients.
Dr. Neal is Board Certified in Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Neal is a member of the North Carolina Academy of Pediatric Dentistry,
the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Academy of
Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Currently, Dr. Neal resides in Durham. In her spare time she enjoys traveling,
gardening, walking her dog, relaxing with a good book and spending time with
her family and friends.
